Midhurst V Jersey U14 Boys
Midhurst 22 - 22 Jersey U14 Boys

Match Report
Cold Conditions Challenge U14s Against Midhurst
In near freezing conditions, the under-14s travelled to face old rivals Midhurst. Despite the cold, they started strongly, scoring the first try almost immediately. This early success, however, lulled the islanders into a false sense of security. A series of defensive lapses and some impressive handling from Midhurst led to them scoring three tries in quick succession, leaving Jersey reeling, and 17-5 down after fifteen minutes.
Now realising that their opponents were a formidable outfit, Jersey began to regroup. Their steady determination was rewarded with a converted try shortly before halftime, narrowing the gap to 17-10.
The second half began much like the first had ended with Jersey just about in the ascendancy. They managed to force their way over for the first try of the half, levelling the scores at 17-17. The match remained tight however, with both teams threatening to break the deadlock.
Five minutes before the end Jersey thought they had done enough to win it. A rare half gap appeared in Midhurst’s defensive line which Jersey muscled through. Midhurst, were not to be outdone, however and with barely a minute left on the clock, they span the ball wide through their dangerous backs who went over in the corner making it 22-22.
That was to be the last score of an enthralling, hard fought, but great spirited game where both sets of players should be proud.
