Essential Player Information
WE OPERATE A "NO GUM SHIELD NO PLAY" RULE. Parents, we would encourage you to make this your childs responsibility each and every week, along with making sure they have their boots and a filled water bottle.
PLEASE MARK ALL KIT WITH YOUR CHILDS NAME! This includes boots, water bottles, bags, tops, shorts and socks.
The U8's will be training on Pitch TBA this season- please note that only players and coaches are allowed onto the pitch. Parents, please use the stands around the periphery and do not go onto the pitch unless invited.
Note that the clubhouse / Catering van will be open for tea, coffee and bacon rolls however as you are required to remain pitchside in case of incidents, please do come back to pitchside once you have your refreshments.
**** PLEASE REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR TAG BELTS ****
We train from 9am (sharp) to 10.00am every Sunday. We play 'MIXED tag' rugby (no contact allowed) following RFU guidelines. This is a safe and enjoyable introduction designed to introduce children to a lifetime of rugby. We aim to ensure that ALL our squad reach their maximum potential through fun training sessions with qualified coaches with particular focus on ensuring the children are having FUN!!
Players should arrive 8:30-8:45am to warm up prior to starting training promptly at 9:00am.
A typical Sunday training session is as follows:-
- 8:30 - 8.45am - Arrive (with tag belts, gum shield and water) and warm up under coaches guidance
- 9.00am - Rugby skills development
- 10.00am - finish
TOP TIPS FOR ALL U8 PLAYERS AND PARENTS
Please ensure your child arrives each week in the appropriate kit and their tag belt is put on over their coloured bib. (Bibs will be handed out at the start of tranining).
THE ESSENTIAL KIT YOU NEED IS TO PLAY:
Rugby or football boots (not metal)
Extra layer will be needed, as you can always take clothes off if hot.
OPTIONAL KIT BUT STRONGLY ADVISED:-
'Skins' - underlayers for the cold days
Fingerless rugby gloves
All kit is available from the M&J Shop or JSSK sports shops in town.
FINALLY AND MOST IMPORTANTLY.....
We train come rain, snow or shine so please make sure every player is 'layered up" for training and has a woolly hat (no bobbles!!) - the club version available from the shop on a Sunday morning is a good option.
This is so important if the players are going to enjoy winter training - a t-shirt and shorts is just not enough - we can always take layers off but shivering players are unhappy bunnies!!
Please make sure each player has a change of clothes and a towel on wet days - it really helps afterwards.
Finally, gum shields - they are a must and are for the players welfare - tag rugby is not a contact sport but, as in all sports, accidents can happen. Snap in gum shields can be bought from as little as £4 in our club shop. Don't forget, we operate a "no gum shield no play" rule.
While we have a team of coaches on the pitch looking after your children,
we are not responsible for your children. Accidents do occasionally happen and therefore it is essential that a parent/carer is present pitchside, if you will be somewhere else on club grounds or if another parent is taking responsibility for your child, this is fine but please let the mnager know at the beginning of the session and leave a mobile contact number with her.
While we are lucky enough to be based at the JRFC, coffee, and bacon rolls will be available after training.
