U14 Parental Consent For The Season 17 18

Match Reports

U14's v Hastings & Bexhill - 23 September

From a slow start in blustery conditions the lads came through with a moral boosting draw. A well drilled and disciplined Hastings & Bexhill team took and early lead gifted by some indifferent defence by Jersey. At half time the lads were down 10-0 with the strong wind assisting neither side. After the break Jersey struggled to get out of their own half and eventually a number of attacks finally resulted in conceding a try which was converted to make the score 17-0 to the home side.

That try resulted in a change of attitude and the lads made the decision to start working with renewed vigour and showed some of the play that we’d practiced in previous weeks. Two tries followed through terrific flowing play making the score 17-10. With just 3 minutes to go came the best period of play that anyone witnessed on the day. Receiving a kick off deep inside our 22 the lads went through 11 phases of play to make 80m which culminated in Cameron Halliwell having the ball dislodged whilst diving for the goal line.
It mattered not as Cameron, captain for the day, applied terrific pressure along with the rest of his forward pack at the resulting scrum. Superb defence meant that we turned the ball over and forced a 5m attacking scrum. What came next was a fantastic score by Evan Elias-Rees under the posts making the kick for Sam Harvey an easier attempt and he held his nerve to earn a well deserved draw in difficult conditions against a well drilled side. Final score 17-17.
Reef Webster earned a man of the match award from the coaching staff and Charlie Webster earned the opposition man of the match. Lots to work on for all the lads and, as the weeks go by, they will gain in confidence and realise that with hard work they can achieve great things.
