The Minis and Juniors (M&Js) takes the welfare of all players, parents/carers, coaches, managers and volunteers seriously and – in light of the ongoing Covid-19 situation – all rugby activity is presently suspended.
In addition, as the Jersey Reds Rugby Club is affiliated to the Rugby Football Union (RFU) we are bound to follow RFU guidelines related to Covid-19, as well as the usual stipulations regarding the type of activities permitted within and outside of the rugby season (which runs from the beginning of September until the end of April each year).
The RFU has produced a Roadmap for a return to Community Rugby which can be viewed here. The Roadmap progresses through stages of permitted activity from individual training with one other person (Stage A) to full contact match play (Stage F). Any training or playing activity must be undertaken in accordance with relevant physical distancing measures, and whilst observing appropriate hygiene practices. Rugby is, for most age groups, a contact sport and we realise that players are going to get close to each other – so this will be carefully managed.
Individual Squad Managers will be in touch with parents/carers regarding a return to training shortly. We anticipate that we will need to make some changes to our training arrangements – so you may see training taking place in smaller groups or ‘bubbles’ which will have to remain separate from others in the same age group, and we may need to stagger start times, particularly for the Sunday morning sessions. Physical contact is likely to be restricted for the foreseeable future, so we will be introducing our young people to different versions of the game that they may not have encountered before. We will also be monitoring the number of parents who can attend, to comply with the local restrictions that apply to gatherings.
Rest assured that everyone involved in the M&Js is working hard to ensure that our youngsters are able to return to rugby swiftly and safely, within the relevant guidelines.
