Brighton U12 Boys V Jersey U12 Boys

Jersey's season got off to the perfect start with an impressive 9-1 victory over Brighton in warm and sunny conditions on the south coast.

The squad's journey began with 14 players travelling together, while another member of the team met the group at the venue. Despite a delayed flight, the boys arrived in Brighton at around 10:30am and quickly turned their attention to the task ahead.

From the opening whistle, this was a fiercely contested encounter. Both sides threw themselves into the collisions, producing some huge tackles, but it was Jersey who settled first and began to dictate the pace of the game.

The breakthrough came when Isaac powered his way over in the corner to open the scoring. Jersey continued to build momentum and extended their lead through a superb team effort and Issac scored a second try.

Fletcher's powerful run broke through the Brighton defence before he produced an excellent offload to Aidan, who crossed for Jersey's third try.

With confidence growing, Jersey maintained relentless pressure. Fletcher then added his own name to the scoresheet, dragging defenders with him as he surged down the right wing to score.

The next try came from outstanding defensive pressure. Nicholas charged down a Brighton clearance and Aidan reacted quickest to gather the loose ball and race over for his second score, giving Jersey a commanding 5-0 lead.

Brighton eventually found a way back into the contest with a well-worked try down the right-hand side following a penalty, making it 5-1.

However, Jersey responded immediately. After winning a turnover at the breakdown, Fletcher produced a chip-and-chase before Tommy sniped from close range and popped to Aidan who then crashed over for a powerful try to complete a dominant first-half display and send Jersey into the break firmly in control with a score of 6-1

Brighton received the kick-off to start the second half, but Jersey were soon back on the attack. Aidan completed a superb individual performance with another well-taken try before Johnny Brawley announced himself with two powerful scores, repeatedly bursting through the Brighton defence to take the score to 9-1.

The final whistle capped an excellent all-round team performance. Jersey played with tremendous heart throughout, dominated the physical battle and controlled the tempo of the match from start to finish. There is still work to be done as the season progresses, but this was an extremely encouraging display and a fantastic way to begin the campaign.
