U10 Esher Festival
Two local Under 10s sides took to the pitch for the Esher Minis Tournament in glorious conditions, with each team playing four games across the day.
The tournament marked a milestone for the young players, as it gave them their first taste of competitive rugby with rucks and scrums introduced. It was a big step up from last season, and both squads rose to the challenge.
When the final whistle went, both sides had finished with two wins and two defeats apiece. The results told only part of the story, though. Both teams played with energy, commitment and a growing understanding of the contact game, and there were plenty of encouraging moments as the youngsters got to grips with the new elements.
Coaches and supporters were united in their pride at how the players conducted themselves, both on and off the pitch. They represented the club superbly, showing the spirit and sportsmanship that make youth rugby special.
With a first competitive tournament of the season now under their belts, the young players will look forward to building on the experience in the weeks ahead.
We would like to thank Jersey Sport for travel grant funding, which gives us the opportunity to take part in UK festivals.
