Chichester v Jersey Saltgate Colts
Chichester 25-19 Jersey Saltgate Colts

Match Report
Final Score: Chichester 25 - 19 Jersey
On an unusually hot October afternoon, Jersey travelled to Chichester for a fiercely contested encounter that was as much a battle against the conditions as it was against the opposition. The hard ground and high temperatures contributed to numerous handling errors throughout, but both sides produced moments of quality in an entertaining contest that remained in the balance until the final whistle.
The opening quarter was dominated by defences. Both teams exchanged possession and territory around halfway, with handling mistakes preventing either side from building sustained pressure. Chichester enjoyed slightly better field position, but Jersey's defensive effort repeatedly forced turnovers and errors.
The deadlock was finally broken midway through the first half. After extended pressure inside the Jersey 22, Chichester's persistence paid off with the opening try, which was converted to give the hosts a 7-0 lead.
Jersey responded positively. A powerful scrum and positive attacking intent began to shift momentum, but handling errors continued to disrupt promising opportunities. Chichester struck again on the half-hour mark when they capitalised on a loose clearance, spreading the ball wide to score in the corner and extend their advantage to 12-0.
The game then burst into life.
Louis Pallant produced the spark Jersey needed, breaking through the Chichester defence to score. He added the conversion himself to reduce the deficit to 12-7. Moments later Jersey took advantage of a scrum awarded from a Chichester infringement, and after a period of close-quarter pressure, Ramon Francis powered over for another try. Although the conversion was missed, Jersey had fought back impressively to level the scores at 12-12.
Chichester had a chance to edge ahead before the break with a penalty attempt, but the kick drifted wide, leaving the sides tied at 12-12 at half-time.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with both teams trading possession and defence dominating large periods of play. Jersey mounted several attacks deep into Chichester territory, only to be met by stubborn resistance on the home side's line.
Chichester regained the lead when they moved the ball effectively through the backs and finished in the corner for an unconverted try, making it 17-12. As fatigue began to take hold in the heat, every error became increasingly costly.
Jersey's standout moment arrived shortly afterwards. Harry Le Brocq produced a moment of individual brilliance, weaving through defenders from inside the Chichester 22 before racing under the posts. Louis Pallant converted to put Jersey ahead for the first time at 19-17.
With the match entering its final stages, Chichester responded strongly. Sustained pressure forced a penalty inside Jersey territory, and the hosts successfully kicked the goal to reclaim the lead at 20-19.
The decisive score came near the end. After building pressure through several phases and set-pieces inside the Jersey half, Chichester worked the ball wide to score in the corner and extend their advantage to 25-19.
Jersey threw everything into one final attack after the restart and came close to the Chichester try line, but the home defence held firm. Moments later the referee brought the contest to an end.
Saltgate continue to sponsor and support the team both on and off the pitch and recently presented the squad with training and playing kit.
