With showers developing and becoming heavy at times, conditions were more fitting for a swimming pool than a rugby pitch, but that didn’t stop both Guernsey and Jersey U8s from giving it absolutely everything. The players played their socks off throughout the day, showing fantastic effort, resilience and sportsmanship in very challenging weather.
Morning Fixtures
The morning sessions saw some tight and exciting encounters, with Jersey just edging the early games:

Guernsey U8 (2) 4–5 Jersey U8 (2)
Guernsey U8 (3) 7–8 Jersey U8 (3)

Despite the scorelines, Guernsey showed great attacking intent and determination, particularly in the second and third games, where the margins were extremely close and the rugby played was excellent from both sides.
Early Afternoon Response
As persistent heavy and thundery showers continued into the afternoon, Guernsey initially lagged a little but quickly regrouped and pushed strongly through the middle part of the session:

Guernsey U8 (2) 10–6 Jersey U8 (3) ✅

These matches highlighted Guernsey’s attacking play, teamwork, and confidence in difficult conditions, with players working hard for each other and showing great improvement as the day went on.
Late Afternoon Matches
The final set of games were keenly contested, with both islands continuing to score freely despite tired legs and very wet conditions:

Guernsey U8 (3) 10–8 Jersey U8 (2) ✅

Guernsey finished the day strongly, picking it back up and pushing it home with two excellent victories, including a thrilling high‑scoring final match that summed up the spirit and enjoyment shown by all players.
Overall Summary
Across nine matches, Jersey claimed the overall win, but the day was very evenly matched, full of tries, smiles and fantastic effort from every child involved. Given the weather conditions, the attitude, commitment and enthusiasm shown by both teams was outstanding.
A brilliant day of U8 rugby, played in the toughest of conditions, and a great experience for all players as they continue their rugby journey.
