Match Report

Guernsey U13 15 – 15 Jersey U13: A Nail-Biter in the League Clash
Forget the Siam Cup narrative—this was a league encounter with all the drama of a cup final. Guernsey and Jersey served up a pulsating contest that swung like a pendulum, ending in a 15-15 deadlock that felt both fair and frustrating.

From the opening whistle, the pace was relentless. Jersey struck first through captain Harrison Saunders, finishing a sweeping move on the far right after a surging run from full-back. It was a statement score, but Guernsey hit back hard. Their electric winger repeatedly found space, slicing through Jersey’s defensive lines with mazy footwork.

Jersey regained the lead thanks to a moment of sheer individual brilliance. Winger Magnus Howe collected a defensive clearance, danced past two defenders, bulldozed through another, and dragged three more over the line with him.

The second half was no less dramatic. Jersey’s pack dominated the scrum, but Guernsey’s backs were razor-sharp, exploiting width and striking again to level the scores. With Jersey pinned deep for much of the half, salvation came via Tudor Dumitru’s thunderous midfield charge. He flattened a defender, offloaded to Nick Barnes, who muscled over amid a tangle of bodies—confirmed by a referee perfectly placed.

Still, Guernsey weren’t done. Their final try, born of slick attacking interplay, left Jersey’s defence clutching at shadows and ensured parity at the whistle.

Standout Performances:

Lochlan O’Brien’s composure at fly-half was pivotal, his tactical kicking repeatedly hauling Jersey out of trouble.

Zach Howell’s last-ditch tackles in the centres were heroic, while the tireless chasing from Saunders, Harrison Cope, and Howe kept Guernsey honest all afternoon.

Both sides played with courage and spirit, and while Jersey will rue missed chances, this was a clear step forward. Next stop: Seaford in January
