Match Report

Sunday 8th March, Jersey vs Worthing U12’s match.
A squad from Jersey’s U12’s travelled away last Sunday in order to take on Worthing in the South East Waterfall competition.  Jersey came up against a well drilled powerful team in Worthing. From the kick off, the home team played with power and commitment, and it took Jersey some time to form some cohesion in defence and ultimately attack. After what was in their own words a slow start from Jersey, under the strong Captain of the day, James (Jimmy) Mackintosh, Jersey started to take the few opportunities that came their way. The physicality and commitment from both teams was evident, with a number of players having to receive treatment for knocks.

In the face of significant pressure Jersey never took a backward step and fought hard in every aspect of the game. Worthing went in at half time several tries to the good but Jersey didn’t let their heads drop.

In the second half Worthing continued to pressurised the Jersey line, but some strong defensive play and good attacking runs saw Jersey battling hard to compete.  Unfortunately some decisions and the bounce of the ball didn’t go Jersey’s way, and ultimately Worthing’s cohesion and match experience led to them scoring some very good tries in the second half.
Although Jersey never managed to get the ball over the oppositions line, they fought hard and can be proud of how they represented the Island. It wasn’t their day, they were frustrated at their own performance having high expectations, which showed a good level of maturity.
They were great ambassadors for their age group, Jersey Minis and Juniors and the Island in how they performed and behaved during a long day.

They will all learn and develop from the experience, and the squad can identify areas to work on for the future. The future  is bright for the Under 12’s.
