Horsham U12 V Jersey U12

Sunday 11th January, Jersey vs Horsham U12’s match.

A squad from Jersey’s U12’s travelled away to West Sussex in order to take on Horsham in the South East Waterfall competition.  Knowing that the Horsham team have the opportunity for many more competitive games than the Jersey squad, we were expecting a hard match. It’s fair to say that the Jersey team played excellently and in a hard fought contest every squad member stepped up and played their part. The on-field organisation of Jersey’s team and their communication as well as some excellent defensive tackling saw Jersey leading 2-1 at half-time.

The second half saw even more commitment from the teams and Jersey put to good effect the ball handling they had been practising and moved 3-1 up.  Jersey then withstood some sustained pressure from Horsham with more excellent tackling. Further strong running, and great supporting play enabled Jersey to regain possession and move through the phases to score again, moving 4-1 ahead.  Horsham weren’t done though and kept playing hard and running the ball well, eventually finding a gap and enabling them to score a well deserved consolation try on the final whistle, leaving Jersey 4-2 winners. The Jersey coaches agreed that all of the squad had played fantastically well and had supported one another as a team in their best display so far this season.

Teddy Whitchurch was identified as man of the match having crossed the try line a number of times, but it is fair to say, all the tries bar one, were great team tries.

The players behaviour throughout the trip was exemplary and they were fine Ambassadors for the Island and Jersey Junior Rugby.
