– A Positive Performance in Great Conditions
On one of the finest days of the year so far, a young and ambitious Jersey side took to the field for a 13:30 kick-off against a powerful Worthing outfit — a team they may well meet again in the upcoming cup final in late April. The stage was set for a strong test, and Jersey rose to the challenge with determination and heart.
Worthing started quickly, capitalising on a couple of early errors to build a 19–0 lead by halftime. Despite the scoreboard, Jersey’s defensive work in the opening period was excellent. With limited possession, it was difficult for Jersey to threaten the try line, but the team stayed composed and kept themselves in the contest. Given the conditions and their resilience, the halftime score remained far from unmanageable.
The second half saw Jersey come alive. Showing superb character, they matched Worthing score for score — drawing the half 19–19. Tries from Seb Braunspahn, George Roberts, and Jamie White, along with two well‑struck conversions from Louis Pallant, showcased Jersey’s growing confidence and attacking sharpness. The team played with far greater tempo and control, causing consistent problems for the Worthing defence.
Although the final scoreline read 38–19 to Worthing, the performance — particularly after the break — highlighted Jersey’s immense potential. The second-half fightback demonstrated not only skill but also the maturity and resilience of a developing group.
There were standout performances across the pitch, including excellent displays from Ollie Houghton, Alex Edwards, and George Roberts, while several other U17 players stepped up impressively, showing they are more than capable at this level.
With the cup final, the Siam Cup, and next season all on the horizon, this match offered plenty of positives. Jersey’s second-half performance especially provides real confidence that this squad is heading firmly in the right direction.

Saltgate continue to sponsor and support the team both on and off the pitch and recently presented the squad with training and playing kit.
