Match Report

Guernsey 25 Jersey 8
Tries  Alex Edwards (1)
Penalties Ollie Treco (1)

The match opened with Jersey pinned deep in their own 22, forced to defend resolutely as Guernsey applied early pressure through sustained phases and set‑piece dominance. Strong defensive work — notably a crucial tackle from Archie Le Maistre — helped Jersey weather the opening storm, eventually fighting their way back upfield.
Handling proved difficult for both sides in very slippy conditions, with repeated scrum resets and knock‑ons disrupting momentum. As Jersey finally gained territory, they began to assert pressure inside Guernsey’s 22. Calm decision‑making paid off when Jersey opted to take the points, opening the scoring with a well‑struck penalty by Ollie Treco to lead 3–0.
Jersey continued to build phases patiently rather than forcing play, pinning Guernsey back with kicks to the corner and repeated scrums inside the 22. The pressure eventually told when Alex Edwards capitalised on an opportunistic moment near the breakdown, crossing for the game’s opening try. With the conversion missed, Jersey moved ahead 8–0.
Guernsey responded immediately, showing greater intensity and contesting the breakdown harder. After breaking the defensive line, they scored their first try to cut the deficit to 8–5 and swung momentum decisively in their favour.
The remainder of the half saw Jersey forced into extended defensive sets, conceding penalties and territory. Despite brave goal‑line defence and a held‑up try, Guernsey eventually broke through once more just before half‑time to take the lead. The interval arrived with Jersey trailing 10–8.

Thunder and lightning earlier in the day set the tone for a dramatic second half, but Jersey struggled to ignite their attacking game. The opening exchanges were scrappy, with both sides trading possession around halfway before Guernsey established territorial control.
Jersey defended stoutly inside their own 22 for prolonged periods, but repeated infringements and fatigue began to tell. After missing an early penalty attempt, Guernsey continued to apply pressure and eventually forced their way over under the posts to extend their lead to 15–8.
Jersey searched for a response, but tired legs and slippery handling undermined attacking efforts. Despite moments of strong defence and occasional breaks, penalties continued to hand Guernsey both territory and control. A successful penalty goal stretched the lead further to 18–8.
In the closing stages, Jersey pushed forward in search of a late score but were punished when Guernsey intercepted during a frantic final phase, racing away to score the decisive try and seal the contest at 25–8.
