Hove kicked off and immediately piled pressure onto Jersey, through solid defence and sharp counter attack. Hove took the first points of the game via a penalty try after a mistimed tackle. Jersey hit back well, finding their shape and building into the game. A very well worked team try led to Ramon Francis getting us level on the scoreboard.
Jersey were unable to exit effectively in the next 10 minutes, leading to further pressure on our line. Hove managed to sneak ahead 14-7 following a tap and go. Likewise to the first score, Jersey worked up the field quickly and in an organised fashion , leading to Hove conceding a try via Max Sayers.
Jersey were inches away from scoring a ‘worldie’ try having ran the length of the field, ultimately to be called into touch. Half time. The end of the first half was brilliant, a ten minute window that showed how good Jersey can be when they are organised.
Hove came firing out the blocks and scored 3 unanswered tries in the first 15 minutes of the second half. As well as Jersey losing a man for an off the ball tackle. Jersey inspired by Quentin Fevrier fought back. Quentin scored 2 fantastic tries. Unfortunately for us, there was not enough time left to kick on and potentially win the match.
For the second time this season, we have come up against a strong Hove side. It was great to speak to Hove coaches and parents who commented on how organised Jersey looked at times in attack and defence. Congratulations to Hove and good luck for the remainder of the league and cup.
